California Age Verification Laws

In accordance with California state law, your billing and shipping addresses must match the address you used to age verify your account with Electric Tobacconist.

What does this mean for new customers registering in California?

Once you create an account and pass age verification, your billing and shipping addresses will be locked. In other words, you will not be able to change your age verified address to a different address in California without needing to have your account re-verified.

If you are asked to upload an ID for age verification purposes during the registration process, then the address on your ID must match the address you used to create your account. Otherwise, your account will be denied.

How does this impact returning California customers?

If you have already passed age verification with the address you are shipping to in California, then nothing will change. Your account will not need to be re-verified.

If you already have an age verified account in California and you try to ship to a different address in California, then you will be asked to re-verify your account:

  1. After clicking on the link in checkout to re-verify your address, you will be taken to your account, where you can enter your new address.
  2. Once you enter your new address, you will be re-directed to your cart. 
  3. When you click on Proceed to Payment, your address will be run through our third-party age verification system. If you do not pass re-verification, then you will be asked to upload an ID. Please note that the address on your ID must match your new billing and shipping address. Otherwise, your re-verification attempt will be denied.

What if I move to California from another state?

If you already have an age verified account in another state and you try to ship to your new address in California, then you will be asked to re-verify your account:

  1. After clicking on the link in checkout to re-verify your address, you will be taken to your account, where you can enter your new address.
  2. Once you enter your new address, you will be re-directed to your cart. 
  3. When you click on Proceed to Payment, your address will be run through our third-party age verification system. If you do not pass re-verification, then you will be asked to upload an ID. What if my account was age verified in California but I move to a different state?

You will not need to re-verify your account before you can update your address.
